Privacy notice
Last updated: 7 September 2026 · Applies to this website (simpletocomplex.com)
This notice explains what personal information this website handles. The short version: we count visits, so we can tell which videos bring people here — and nothing else at all unless you type your email address into the Readiness Check, and even then, only that.
Who we are
This website is operated by Simple to Complex, a trading name of Kamran Sikander, publisher of Simple to Complex Mathematics. Our address is Unit 3 Firhill Business Centre, 74 Firhill Road, Glasgow G20 7BA, and you can contact us at info@simpletocomplex.com.
What this site collects
Almost nothing, by design. We use a privacy-focused analytics tool, PostHog, to count how many people visit and which link brought them here — that is how we know whether a video was worth making. Until you accept the cookie banner it counts you anonymously: no cookie is set, and the only thing kept on your device is a small flag recording that the counter is running. Nothing on your device identifies you. If you accept, it remembers you between pages so we can see how many visitors go on to take the Readiness Check. PostHog is our processor, its servers are in the European Union, and it never receives your child's answers or score. PostHog itself is a US company, so although your data is stored in the EU it is handled under the UK-approved standard contractual clauses we have signed with them. Our hosting provider keeps standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, pages requested) for security and capacity reasons, as virtually all web hosting does; we do not use these to identify visitors.
There is exactly one place on this site where you can give us personal information, and it is optional: the email box at the end of the Readiness Check.
The Readiness Check
The Readiness Check is a free written test. You can take the whole thing without telling us anything: there is no login, no account, and we do not record which questions were attempted or how they were answered. The answers are revealed in your browser, and nothing about them is sent to us. We count only that a check was marked, never what was in it.
At the end there is an optional, unticked box where you can give us an email address to receive more material of the same kind. If you tick it and submit, this is what happens:
- What we collect: your email address, and which link brought you to us — nothing else. Not your name, not your child's name or age, and not your answers.
- Why we may do it: your consent — you ticked a box that was not pre-ticked. That is also our lawful basis under UK data protection law.
- Who else sees it: we use Brevo, an email service provider, to store the address and send the emails. Brevo acts on our instructions as a data processor. Brevo is a French company and holds this data on servers in the European Union. We do not sell, rent or share your address with anyone else.
- How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe, and in any case we remove addresses that have not opened or clicked anything for 24 months.
- Stopping: every email has an unsubscribe link, and one click ends it. You can also email us and we will remove you by hand. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and costs you nothing.
The Readiness Check itself is designed so there is nothing to collect: it runs entirely in your browser, and your child's answers and score never leave the device. There is no login and nothing is stored. The only information that can reach us is the email address a parent chooses to type into the box at the end.
This box is for parents and guardians. We are not asking children to give us their details, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this site.
If you email us
If you contact info@simpletocomplex.com, we hold your email and its contents for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, under our legitimate interest in responding to you. We don't add you to any list or share your details with anyone.
The Booster Course platform
Buying the Booster Course happens on our separate platform, which does hold account information (email, encrypted password, payment and access status). It uses Stripe to process payments and Brevo to send account emails. That platform carries its own privacy notice, shown when you create an account, and it is the notice that governs your membership.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over personal data we hold about you: to see a copy of it, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and — where we rely on your consent — to withdraw that consent at any time.
To exercise any of them, email info@simpletocomplex.com. We will respond within one month. If a request is unusually complex we may extend that by up to two further months, and we will tell you within the first month if that happens. There is no charge.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), though we would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
